Fiscal Cliff

Fiscal cliff to me, is not a good thing for people. I'm not sure how it effects my family but I know that it DOES for a fact effect other people in the country. The thing that will benefit my family, I think, is if they tax out the higher class and keep the middle class the same. On the other hand, I think that everyone should be taxed the same because people are spending their money the same, it all spends the same way. If a person who makes $100,000 a year and a person who makes $40,000 a year goes out and buys an iPad, it's still the same iPad. It doesn't change from person to person. But this isn't how most people think. Most people think that the wealthier class believes they're above everyone else. And let's be honest, the stereotypical wealthy class people are stuck up old people who think they ARE better than everyone. But there are people that aren't that way and that's why I believe that isn't a good approach to that law.

Election Game

For most voters it all depends on religion for how they are going to cast their vote. Some people may support Obama but then learn about his views on abortion and their minds will be changed completely. I think that most people from Iowa are going to vote for Romney because of his beliefs on many things that people believe are religious. Wisconsin is a swing state because of Paul Ryan, but in the end Obama will win this state.
In Florida, I believe, even though they voted Democratic, Obama will pull a win out of them. They may go Republican, but Obama did have the lead over the Hispanic vote, but recently that has been split. So maybe, in the end of this, it will be a close call between Obama and Romney with Florida because of the many different factors that contribute to the opinions of the people and how the overall polls will finish.

Campaign Week

Throughout campaign week was very interesting. It was really interesting to see how different the views of each party were, while learning about our representative, Bob Hager. I have learned a lot about how the elections work, from local government to the presidential elections. Considering I did not know much about them at all before this. I've never really had much of an opinion on the presidential elections before this, just the major things that come up in commercials that are the obvious things that most people focus on. I've learned a lot of little things that Romney and Obama have to say about things and I'm still not sure who I should focus on. It's also interesting to see peoples' opinions on what the presidents have to say about certain debatable topics. All around, election week has been a very educational time and I've learned a lot.

Limited Government

The most important aspect of our constitution is Limited Government. Without limited government our government would be free reigning and no matter what people's opinions would be, be it good or bad, they would do whatever they wanted. This would have a large affect on the country because there would be people who disagree and agree with what people do and no matter what they would do it anyway. Limited government also provides freedom to the Nation, giving rights to the people. Limited government also limits what the government can do with foreign policies which results in a stable government and not a dictatorship.

This is exactly what comes to mind when I think about elections.  All politicians think about is getting re-elected.  Both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of this widely held belief.  I think that there is a way out of this cycle, if people start to vote for the candidate that is right for America, and not who is associated with their party, the country can get back on track.

What does citizenship mean to me?

In today’s independent society the idea of citizenship can mean a lot of different things to the average individual.  For me citizenship gives a sense of belonging to the ever changing community.  I live in Arlington, Iowa.  Arlington has a population of 429 people ranging from newborns to senior-citizens.

Where I come from everyone knows one another and would do anything for each other.

I can imagine that in bigger towns, this is not the case.  Most of my friends in other towns barely know their neighbors let alone the whole community. Being part of the community I know that I have the basic rights everyone else does.  My community recognizes that everyone has the freedom to say whatever they want, freedom to assemble at the community center to revise town laws when needed, and an important one in my community is the freedom of choosing which church you want to attend.

Citizenship to me means being attendant to all things possible that will help your self image of being a citizen. It also means being fairly educated in our basic American rights. Being a citizen also means having a strong opinion in what will change our country, such as voting for president or other things like that. Citizenship doesn't just happen in the United States, either.  Citizenship is supporting any country you are from and supporting what you believe in, in that country.
